"Drill, Baby, Drill!"
As I heard the crowd chanting this abomination at the Republican National Convention, I wanted to retch. They emulated a sickening lynch-mob cheering on a rapist. Just like that Jody Foster movie, The Accused, where the hicks in the bar cheered the gang-rape of of the waitress while she struggled to break free from the brutality inflicted on her on top of the pool table.
Only they want to gang-bang Mother Earth. For what? To line the pockets of the big oil corporations and their lobbyists currently heading the Republican Party.
At least 28 of John McCain's fundraisers or senior campaign staff have lobbied for Big Oil. And Big Oil contributed more to Sen. McCain this year than to any other Senator.
But the facts confirm they haven't developed the leases they already have.
"The oil companies already have access to some 34 billion barrels of offshore oil they haven't even developed yet, but ending the federal moratorium on offshore drilling would probably add only another 8 billion barrels . . . Once the leases are available, it is a 5 to 10 years before you get to exploratory drilling. There is a tremendous shortage of drilling rigs and manpower. And it is probably another five or more years from drilling your exploratory well to getting significant production from the area -- and that assumes you didn't dig a dry well. . . So we are almost certainly talking under 100,000 barrels a day sometime after 2020." 1

Kim's Note: I wondered what the rest of the world thought of us as the Oil Barons beamed while the ignorant crowd chanted their mantra. A beacon of light? Or a hysterical lynch mob?
